A STEP BACK IN TIME…

It was a lovely afternoon, the wind was blowing, the radio played a jazz, waltzes, and fireside chats by FDR. There were fabulous appetizers for the guests to nibble to their hearts desire. After the nibbles, a variety of gelato topped off the afternoon. If you missed the 70th Anniversary Garden Party on Sunday, September 30th, you missed a step back in time.

Ladies adorned the Estate House at Cypress Grove in their best flowered brimmed hats and summer dresses and gents strolled the grounds in crisp white shirts with two tones shoes. It was a salute to 1937 … and everyone had a grand time!

Guests were invited to a sneak preview of the 2008 HHR as they came into Cypress Grove Park. Just to let you in on the scoop…the cats and dogs at the SPCA of Central Florida joined together this year for our birthday to raffle car! This year a one very lucky individual will win a brand new ~ fully loaded new HHR! Tickets are still on sale for $70 a chance to win…but don't miss out! The drawing of chance will be held December 15th at the Orlando Shelter. Don't say I didn't remind you!

In the cool afternoon breeze some guests played a game or two of croquet. Other guests tried their hand at bocce ball. Gents wandered over to… where else… the Gent's Tent for their choice of cigars from Harry's Cigars and a splash of Gentleman Jack from Brown-Forman Beverage (the distributor for Jack Daniels) or even a flavored lemonade or mint julep (made a little better using spirits from Costal Wine and Spirits.)

The catering was splendid! Arthur's Catering created finger foods and platters of summer delights and without a doubt everyone saved room for dessert… when you have gelato from Muse Gelato you can't resist! Of course for those interested in recreating that blissful late summer day… head down to the Cyber Shack on International Drive for a scoop or two!

Ladies browsed the SPCA Garden Store for parasols and fans and purchased their raffle tickets for a chance to win some fantastic items! We had artwork from Charles Wysocki, a getaway at the Belleview Biltmore Estate in Clearwater, and gift baskets brimming with delights from Bull Fish!

September 30th marked a very important day for the SPCA, as the Honorable Orange County Mayor, Richard Crotty, declared the day "SPCA of Central Florida Day". And if things can't get any better…October 2007 was declared "SPCA of Central Florida Month" by the City of Orlando! A whole month! The cats and dogs are thrilled by this proclamation!

Of course the highlight of the afternoon was the costumes! As evidenced by the photos guests dressed to the nines in their one of a kind vintage and authentic outfits.

We would also like to take this time to thank Balloons by Renee, Scenic Works and Media One for their in-kind donations.

And a very special thank you to the supporters and patrons of our 70th Garden Party ~ we hope you will be just as delighted to see what we have in store for our 71st Birthday! Till next year…
