Introduction

Many animal cruelty suspects are known to be teens and young adults, almost always young males. It is also known that the cruel act of animal abuse is as likely to follow other violent crimes as it is to precede them. You can help BREAK THE CYCLE.

Resources

Kibbles 4 Thought

  • What is the connection between animal cruelty and human violence?
  • Why does the FBI take this connection seriously?
  • What are the motives for animal cruelty?
  • Are pets, more often than stray animals, targets of animal cruelty? Why?
  • Are animal abuse and domestic violence interrelated?
  • What laws protect animals from cruelty in your state?
  • What is the First Strike campaign?

Challenge

  • Increase education and awareness, in your generation, on the importance of, “Making the Connection between Animal Cruelty and Human Violence”.

Task

  • For your task, design/create a mock-up of an online multimedia Public Service Announcement (PSA), also known as a webpage, on the importance of “Making the Connection between Animal Cruelty and Human Violence”.
  • A mock-up is a model used for the demonstration of a design. Do not confuse a mock-up with a prototype. Prototypes are always meant to function, where as mock-ups are only meant to look like the real system.
  • Multimedia is a combination of content forms such as text, audio, still images, animation, video, and interactivity.
  • The Internet facilitates the means to achieve global communication, networking and advertising for example, the use of social networking websites like MySpace, hi5 and Facebook.
  • Before making the mock-up of your PSA webpage, consider the application of simple webpage design templates, similar to those available in software like Microsoft Word and Publisher. However, you can use any software of preference for your design.
  • Be creative. Develop a message that educates, creates awareness and speaks out to your generation.
