Introduction
In Loxahatchee, Florida, Shaq, a lost pet pit bull is thrown into a pit with a trained
fighting dog. After 15 minutes, the bloody bruised dog is clearly beaten and removed
from the ring. Chained to a fence, Shaq dies hours later from his wounds. Animal
cruelty takes many forms and many victims, but the end result is always the same,
animal suffering.

Dilemma
Popular culture is sometimes known to glamorize the cruel act of dog fighting. For
example, rap artists and athletes at times promote this act as an entertaining cool
sport. This negative message influences and impacts the lives of teens and young
adults in local communities. Dog fighting, also known as street fighting, is related
to other crimes, causing this cruel act to become a major focus of law enforcement
efforts and prosecutions in the 21st century.
